Welcome to Dazzle Maine Coons!
We felines want to tell you a little more about our cattery. We live in a wonderful cage-free garden, completely closed-off securely for our safety. We have ample space to run around and play, or just relax in the shade. Our lodgings consist of very unique custom made wine barrels with thatched roofs, which provide shade and dry sleeping place for us. Siestas during winter mean that you won’t see us for a few hours!
Our cattery is nestled in Mossel Bay, overlooking the ocean.
How did it all start ? Well, the story goes like this – our breeder, Monika Bouwer, then still living in Mpumalanga, visited the Irene Art Market in Pretoria, with her friend about 15 years ago. While browsing, she saw two of our Breed, walking on leads with their owners and could not believe her eyes! Those Maine Coons absolutely dazzled her!! There and then it was decided that some day she also would own Maine Coons and Voila!
At first, three cats were re-homed to her. The Johburgers, as we like to call them, were 2 spayed Maine Coons and a moggie, who we really love. But that was not enough, and soon our big buddy Ajax joined the family. He was king of the castle for a few years, and began his show career. Being regularly at cat shows, Monika soon came into contact with lots of wonderful breeders, who gave her lots of advice and eventually selling her our first breeding queen.
Currently we are four queens, a youngster and then of course the stud. There are rumours through the grapevine that a few new youngsters might be joining us! The more, the merrier.
Living in a cattery does not mean it is all fun and games. We all have to visit our veterinarian regularly and all sorts of medical tests have to be done, i.e. testing for HD, HCM, PKD, FIV and FeLV. Not much fun, but Monika insists that we are always in tip top condition. All our results are in order.
Our kittens are raised in our home and at the age of 10 weeks, are slowly introduced to all other cats and 2 small dogs living here. They are well socialized when they leave for their new homes at 12 weeks of age. When leaving our cattery, all kittens will have been inoculated, dewormed, micro chipped and spayed or neutered. Their new owners are also carefully selected, as our breeder wants to keep in contact, as we want to see how nicely our kittens develop and grow!
We are all registered with the Southern Africa Cat Council and each kitten is issued with its own pedigree.
All in all, we can say that we are really loved and cared for, and are all very happy Maine Coons.
PS: Our kittens can be flown to any destination . Ask Monika for the relevant information.
